How it works

A route that runs every hour.

Coins, letters, one draw a day and a fee split nobody can touch. Here is the whole loop, and how to check Gus's work yourself.

01 · The loop

From a fan to a famous inbox

  1. 01

    Open

A fan launches a coin for a famous person on pump.fun from their own wallet. One coin and one mailbox per persona.

  2. 02

    Lock

In the same transaction the creator fees are split 20/60/20 and the split is locked. Nobody can change it.

  3. 03

    Hold

Fans buy the coin. Your weight is how much you held and for how long during the round, read straight from your on-chain history. No snapshots to game.

  4. 04

    Write

A holder writes one letter per round, up to 280 characters. Sending it burns 1,000 tokens.

  5. 05

    Draw

Every hour, on the hour (UTC), one letter per mailbox is drawn. A new mailbox's first round runs to the first full hour at least 30 minutes after launch. Randomness comes from the first Solana block after the close.

  6. 06

    Check

The picked letter passes Gus's safety check. If it fails, it's binned and the draw repeats.

  7. 07

    Deliver

The winning letter lands in the persona's mailbox, next to the fees waiting for them.

  8. 08

    Claim

When the persona comes to claim their 60%, they read the pile first and can answer in public.

Where the fees go

20%

The opener

Whoever launched the mailbox. Paid out by pump.fun, for the life of the coin.

60%

The persona

Held in the persona's escrow until they claim it. Unclaimed after 90 days, it buys back and burns their coin.

20%

Fanmail

Runs the route: servers, draws, moderation and Gus.

03 · Proof of draw

Check any draw yourself

Nobody, including Gus, picks the winner. Every delivered letter on a mailbox page has a “How this was drawn” box with the numbers you need.

  1. Find the seed block: the first Solana block at or after the round's close (the top of the hour, UTC).
  2. Hash its blockhash with the round and the coin address to get the seed.
  3. Hash the seed with the attempt number and reduce it modulo the total weight.
  4. Each letter's weight is its writer's balance over the round, rebuilt from their token account's transactions.
  5. Walk the letters in order, adding up weights. The letter whose range contains the number wins.
seed    = sha256(blockhash, roundId, mint)
r[n]    = sha256(seed, n) mod totalWeight
winner = first letter where r[n] < sum(weights so far)

weight  = writer's balance x seconds held,
over the round, from chain history

04 · FAQ

Questions people ask Gus

Does the famous person know about their mailbox?

Not necessarily. Fans open mailboxes without asking. That's why the persona's share waits for them: they can claim it whenever they show up. A mailbox does not mean they endorse the coin.

Why does buying right before the draw barely help?

Weight is your average balance over the whole round, to the second, rebuilt from your token account's on-chain history. Holding 1% for 24 hours counts as 1%. Buying 10% an hour before the draw counts as about 0.4%.

What happens to fees nobody claims?

The persona's share is held for them. If a persona ignores their mailbox for 90 days, Gus stamps it Return to sender and that share buys back and burns their coin.

Can Fanmail change the split or take the persona's share?

No. The split is written into pump.fun's fee sharing config when the coin launches, and the admin is revoked in the same transaction. Every mailbox page shows the split and checks it on-chain.

What does the opener get?

20% of that coin's creator fees, forever, paid out by pump.fun's own fee distribution.

Why burn tokens to write?

It keeps the pile honest. Spam costs something, and every letter makes the coin's supply a little smaller.

Is this financial advice?

No. Fanmail is an experiment in fan culture. Coins are volatile and can go to zero. Winning a draw delivers a letter and nothing else.
